About NSOU (Netaji Subhas Open University)
It is the ninth state open university of India. Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU), located in Kolkata, West Bengal, was established in 1997 under the West Bengal Act XIX. It is dedicated to making higher education accessible to students of all classes through distance education. It offers UG, PG, Diploma, Certificate and PhD programs purely in India through six schools. The most popular courses of this university are Bengali, History, BA/BSc, English, and MA/MSc.
NSOU was established to commemorate the birth centenary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Undergraduate programs in Arts and Commerce were started in 1998. This later expanded to science and postgraduate courses. The university is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC, approved by UGC and recognised by AICTE, DEB.

Every year, the university invites lakhs of students for admission twice (January and July sessions). The registration link for the January session will be up soon, and admission will be available in various streams: Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Education and others. Netaji Subhas Open University admission last date is 31 January 2026 for the 2026-27 academic session for short-term courses. NSOU UG Admission
It is a 4 to 3-year undergraduate program which is divided into six to eight semesters. NSOU offers a variety of specialisations in Distance learning mode, such as BA, BSc, BCom, BEd and more. Eligibility Criteria:
- Students must have passed 10+1+1 (12th) class in any field (Arts, Science, Commerce) from a recognised board.

NSOU B.Ed Admission
Netaji Subhas Open University offers the Bachelor of Education program at the undergraduate level, which is a 2-year open learning program divided into 4 semesters. Admission is based on the merit list. This program is designed for students who want to pursue a teaching degree in a flexible study environment at affordable fees. The total fee for B.Ed. in NSOU is INR 40,000, and the application fee is INR 500, which is non-refundable.
NSOU BA Admission 2026
Many courses are offered under the Bachelor of Arts program, such as Hindi, English, History, Bengali, and more. It is a three to four-year program which is divided into six to eight semesters. To be eligible for admission, students must have an intermediate class with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board. The total fees for NSOU BA programs are INR 9,900. There is no entrance exam required for BA admission in NSOU Admission 2026.
