The university was established on 10 January 1992 by an act of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. When Jharkhand became a new state in the year 2000, this university came under the Jharkhand government. It is named after the freedom fighter Sido Kanhu Murmu, the leader of the Santhal rebellion.

SKMU is accepting different UG, PG, Diploma, Certificate, and PhD courses in various subjects like BA, MA, MSc, BSc, BEd, and more. • Undergraduate admission: Students should have completed an intermediate class in any subject from a Recognised educational board.

Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka, offers a full-time PhD degree at the doctoral level.  Applicants are being invited by SKM University for PhD Admission in various subjects like Bengali, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, and other subjects. In PhD admission is through the qualification exam, such as JRF, NET, GATE, or JET. Those who pass the entrance exam, the university will call them for an interview and a written test. Sido Kanhu Murmu University PhD Admission 2026-27 Application form will be open on 01 April 2026 for the new session, and the last date will be 12 June 2026. The interview will be conducted from 20 June to 30 June 2026.

PhD eligibility Criteria:- 

• Candidates must have held a master’s degree in a relevant field with 55% marks.
• 5% relaxation for the reserved category.
• There is no age limit to get admission.
